800 Horsepower Yenko/SC Corvette Bumps Z06 Aside
Back when muscle cars ruled the roads with insane amounts of power and blistering quarter-mile times, performance companies made a name for themselves by selling quality performance packages. Steve Yenko, who was well known for running Yenko Chevrolet of Canonsburg, PA, created the aftermarket division that gave rise to highly sought-after and powerful Yenko Camaros.
While General Marketing Capital Incorporated now owns the Yenko name, Specialty Vehicle Engineering (SVE) has slapped the name onto its latest product – the 2017 Yenko/SC Corvette.
Built by New Jersey-based SVE, the sports car starts off as a Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, which is no slouch thanks to its 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine, and gets a whole bunch of performance upgrades. The engine, for instance, is enlarged to 6.8-liters and benefits from forged aluminum pistons, CNC ported and polished cylinder heads, as well as a forged steel crankshaft.
While those upgrades play a large role in the engine’s bump in performance, the main upgrade is the 2.9-liter twin-screw supercharger that sits atop of the V8. So what’s the performance like? Well it would make either one of the Hellcat twins blush with 800 horsepower and 750 pound-feet of torque. And that can be sent through either a seven-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The engine isn’t the only thing that’s been fiddled with as the performance company fitted the car with various cosmetic modifications. And just so people know that General Marketing Capital Incorporated owns Yenko’s name, there are numerous badges on the interior and exterior of the Corvette.
As one would expect, purchasing one of the most powerful and menacing Corvettes on the road isn’t exactly cheap. The entire package costs $46,000 on top of the purchase price of a Grand Sport. With a stock Grand Sport starting at roughly $66,000, the 800-horsepower Corvette isn’t exactly cheap at $112,000.
For the enthusiasts out there that have the money and are interested in the Yenko/SC Corvette, they’d better put an order in soon, as only 50 units of the overly powerful Corvettes will be made. SVE plans to unveil the limited-edition sports car at the 2017 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, AZ, which began earlier this week.
