A Sea of Ferrari Red in Osaka

Last month, Ferrari hosted a special event for owners and fans of the prancing horse brand in Japan, where it showcased about 100 supercars from its collection. The carmaker claims a whopping 450,000 people were in attendance, and that the festivities resulted in the main street of Osaka being “awash in a sea of Ferrari red.” If there was one event to attend this year, this may have been it.

Ferrari Festival in Japan

Dubbed the Midousuji Wonder Street event, the Italian luxury sports car manufacturer’s exclusive gathering took place on the main street of Osaka on November 29, 2015. The party kicked off with an F1 demonstration, where Japanese professional racing driver Shinji Nakano took the wheel of the Ferrari F2003GA and provided the crowd with some supercar action. However, the highlight of what appeared to be a very memorable day had to have been the parade, which featured numerous limited and classic exotics on display for all to appreciate, including: five LaFerraris, 13 Dinos, a 458 Speciale, an Enzo, and a 750 Monza, among many other prancing-horse stamped vehicles made in Maranello.

The Ferrari Dino in particular may have drawn special attention, since the question as to whether or not the automaker would revive the nameplate was a hot topic this past June. Edmunds had classified the relatively affordable rear-drive model as one of the 25 greatest V-6 powered cars ever in one of its 2011 articles. The vehicles were produced until 1976, and although the marque has since been retired, it remains one of Ferrari’s most iconic names. News and reviews suggest that if it returns to the lineup, it will be priced around $190,000.

That being said, the special series Ferrari 458 Speciale likely also garnered its share of cheers during the parade. After all, its coefficient of 1.50 is the the highest in Ferrari production car history, its ultra-rapid steering response time is a jaw-dropping 0.060 seconds, and its mid-rear 4.497cc V-8 engine is phenomenal. Plus, features like side slip angle control, a hyper-responsive dual-clutch transmission, and Frequency-Shaped SCM-E dampers all help to provide a better, more precise and controlled driving experience.

All that being said, if ever you have the opportunity to attend one of the Italian carmaker’s exclusive gatherings, do show up — no matter where it may be. It’s practically guaranteed to be an event to remember.
