Audi Q8 E-Tron Concept Preview

Audi Q8 E-Tron Concept

News of the Q8’s imminent reveal comes as no surprise to those of us who have been faithfully awaiting its arrival. Since 2015 we’ve been primed for the range-topping plug-in hybrid and in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, we will finally see Audi’s work in progress.

So far, the information released on this car leaves a lot to be desired, but we do know that the Q8 concept is a ‘near-production study’ which will ‘unlock a new segment for the full-size category.’

Also qualifying for the the crossover category with the ‘emotional styling of a coupe and the spaciousness that typifies an SUV’, the Q8 is already distinguishing itself from Audi’s other production models with its wide octagonal Single-frame and its distinct design queues from the Ur-quattro of the 1980’s which include a flat, wide  C-post and prominent flared shoulders above the wheels.

Audi has mentioned 2019 as the expected date of release of the Q8 model, now we are hearing rumors of a 2018 release. Regardless of the date of its ultimate entrance to the buyers’ market, we need to see the concept first because there will no doubt be nips, tucks and a varying amount of editions before the production model is ready. Until January we have nothing else but these intriguing sketches indicative of the concept to be released, a foretaste if you will.
