Citroën CXperience Concept

The phrase ‘Citroën comfort’ takes on a whole new meaning with their latest concept, the Citroën CXperience. The CXperience comes to us prior to its debut at the Paris Motor Show in a couple weeks and due to its unique design and futuristic characteristics, the CXperience is set to generate much enthusiasm.

The first thing that will strike you about this car is the design. Is it a sedan or a shooting brake? Wait, no, a fastback? According to the press release it is an ‘executive saloon’—so sedan ultimately—but whatever the designation, it is sleek and attractive and it beckons you inside, but not before you’ve taken a proper gander at its 22-inch wheels, almost 16-foot length, lack of wing mirrors on the car and the three LED directional lights positioned on either side of the vehicle.

The Be Different, Feel Good promise is consistent with the CXperience’s interior design language inspired by architecture, decoration and furnishings which resulted in a cabin of clean and contemporary lines. The particular shade of yellow used implies optimism, the space indicates a propensity for comfort and a decidedly ergonomic designation without neglecting the style evident in the wooden accented backrests and chrome-finished sills.

What’s a futuristic design concept without the techy bits? This concept was designed to be ‘an intuitive human-machine interface, to provide digital continuity between digital worlds for the driver and the passenger’. The key feature of the cabin is the 19-inch rectangular screen that functions as the vehicle control center; there is also a smartphone and mobile phone control feature. The passengers also have access to a mobile tablet, which allows for individual seat and air-conditioning function.

The absence of side wing mirrors on the exterior is rectified by the two side cameras in its stead, which sends pictures to small digital screens positioned along the inner door panels in the same vicinity as the loudspeakers and the air vents. The driver will have a 360-degree view of his immediate environment.

What, you are most definitely wondering is: ‘what powers this beauty’? Citroën decided on a plug-in hybrid technology allowing for power, versatility and a relaxed drive. The petrol engine is mated to a 8-speed automatic gearbox and develops between 150 to 200-hp and up to an additional 80 kW via the electric motor for a total of about 300-hp. The CXperience can be driven in the city with a purported range of about 37 miles with zero emissions. The CXperience’s 13kWh battery, which can be charged in about 4.5 hours with a standard charging system, will be positioned under the cabin to deliver power to the rear axle.

Concept cars are characterized by their unconventional designs and sometimes-outlandish specifications, but the CXperience seems practical enough, no? Build it we say, build it!

The Paris Motor Show will be open to the public on October 1st and the Citroën CXperience concept will be on display.
