Déjà Vu: The 2018 Audi A5/S5 Sportback

Audi A5 Sportback

The US is often left wanting when it comes to certain cars. Europe—home to the most renowned luxury brands in the world—gets the first swing at several amazing models the US never gets. Audi, which has been bolstering its lineup with new models, is debuting a revised Audi A5/S5 Sportback that will finally cross the Atlantic and hit US dealerships early next year.

A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque will power the 2018 A5. The S5 packs a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6, which makes 354 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The A5 has a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission while the S5 shifts through a standard eight-speed gearbox. Power will be sent to all four wheels through Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system, which is standard on both variants.

Regarding styling, the A5 and S5 Sportback is a four-door version of the two-door A5. Of course, it is not to be confused with the A7/S7—or any other Audi for that matter. The design may not be groundbreaking, but the Sportback rides on Audi’s new MLB Evo architecture. Inside, the A5 Sportback is just like the A5 coupe. The layout and materials are nice—and all Audi. Something we do like.

The 2018 Audi A5/S5 Sportback will be available at dealers during the first quarter of 2017. Pricing will be announced closer to the A5/S5’s on-sale date. For those wanting something with style and functionality that isn’t the A4—this could be your car.
