Singapore’s used car dealership ABM, Autobahn Motors, brings new meaning to the acronym with their 15-story showroom that takes the form of a vending machine. A luxury car vending machine that is. And while this concept is not unique—see American used car dealer Carvana and Volkswagen’s car delivery center in Berlin—imagine receiving a 1977 Ferrari Dino GT4 or 1955 Morgan Tourer at the push of a button? Yes, we realize that the process is a lot more involved than that, however, the novelty of the experience demands acknowledgement.
Land space in Singapore is scarce. So, with creativity and innovation directing the process they were able to make efficient use of land space with the added benefit of standing out from the competition. With their Automotive Inventory Management System (AIMS) from a touchscreen on the ground floor, the customer is able to see and select the car they are interested in. From the time the car is selected to the moment it hits the ground floor is about one to two minutes. This time does not alter depending on the floor the vehicle is on; each lot takes approximately the same time.
This exciting take on the used car sales experience has proven beneficial for Singapore’s ABM. In an interview with General Manager, Gary Hong, CTV reports that sales have risen by 30% since moving to the new location in December of last year. Dubbed as the “world’s largest luxury car vending machine”, this 60 lot building will certainly provide a memorable shopping experience for the customer whether or not they end up purchasing a car. Even though it is intuitively understood that the typical experience of purchasing a vending machine snack can in no way be compared to purchasing a used luxury vehicle, the question still arises: what if it gets stuck?
