McLaren 570S vs Porsche 991 GT3 RS

McLaren 570S vs Porsche 991 GT3 RS

Anyone who knows anything about cars can remember a time when there was no comparison. The V8 twin turbo was the most impressive out on the race track. Wait! It’s not the leader on the track anymore? Sorry guys (and gals), there is a new captain in town. With its sleek lines and updated curves the Porsche 911 GT3 RS has been making its move just inside on the turns. Let me break it down for you.

Under the hood is home to a naturally aspirated 4.0-Liter flat-six that exhibits a sumptuous 500 horse power. She (yes I’ve deemed this car a she, because only a woman could have curves like this and still look good) goes from 0-60 in 3.3 seconds. Weighing in at just 3,131-lbs this car whips and zooms around the track at speeds in excess of 150-mph, topping out at a sweet 193-mph. For those weird people who actually care about fuel economy in a car like this she still takes the cake in the conservation class here, average mpg is 14-city and 20-hwy. I’m sure that is only when you can keep your foot out of her long enough to conserve. I’m sure the carbon fiber and magnesium body panels used to cut back on weight have a little to do with this fuel savvy race car. Driven via a 7 speed dual clutch transmission you cannot go wrong here. Finally, you can own the mighty 911 GT3 RS starting at a base price of $131,450.

At one point in time this beaut could have won the La Mans flat out with its 562-hp, 3.8-Liter, twin turbo, V8 screaming around the turns. Now it is classified as a “daily driver” for those that can afford to call it that. Don’t get me wrong it’ll still kick arse and take names! Boasting with a top speed of 204-mph and can go 0-60 in 2.7 seconds. Impressive, right? How about driving all this with the 7-speed gear box pushing 443-ft lbs of torque to the rear wheels @ 5000 RPMs. The 570S also speaks to the fuel economy concerned citizens with a rating of 16-city and 23-highway. Features include carbon ceramic brakes to take ease of mind to the next level when trying to stop this bucket of fun. Also, a carbon-fiber tub reduces weight and adds strength, mounted just behind the cockpit. With its grand price tag of just $184,900 should make for a fun ride to the office.

Track testing

McLaren vs Porsche on Track

When tested side by side at the Buttonwillow Raceway, the Porsche was able to pull just ahead of the McLaren overall. The 911 completed the lap in 1 minute 54.5 seconds and held an average speed of 91.2-mph. The 570S took just a bit longer, 1 minute 56.1 seconds and was only able to average 89.9-mph.

All in all, either model will get you to and from your destination quickly, luxuriously and in a hell of a lot of style. The only question you will have is, do you have room for one of each in your garage?
