The New Karma Revero Preview
The first production car from automaker Henrik Fisker inspired and then disappointed. The plug-in-hybrid sedan was positioned as an electric luxury sports sedan, and like Tesla at the time of its reveal, garnered many eyes in anticipation of what Fisker Automotive would bring to the table. Now three years post a rather embarrassing departure from the EV market, Fisker Automotive is back. Sorry, no, the Karma is back and it has absolutely nothing to do with Fisker. In the hands of Chinese auto parts giant Wangxiang Group, Karma Automotive’s inaugural model, the Karma Revero, will attempt to win our hearts this September.
In the history of, well, anything, no great comeback was ever made without a few lofty goals and raised expectations. For the Revero, Karma Automotive has boldly shared that this, their first model, is the ‘only model in the US with a solar roof that will power the vehicle’. The whole vehicle? Until we get an official charge time as well as a drive range, we’ll just have to take their word for it.
So, ultimately what do we know? Well, we know that it works. Wired, took it for a spin with Carl Jenkins, Senior VP & Vehicle Line Executive of Karma Automotive and overall gave it a pretty positive review. Wired gathered that the Karma Automotive upgraded the drivetrain. The Revero has twin electric motors that drive the rear wheels and it is powered by a 23-kilowatt-hour battery. The Revero also has a 2-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that works as a generator when the power runs low. That solar roof is already losing its importance.
According to a Karma press release the public will officially get to see the Karma golden child on September 8th this year. They are keen on starting as they mean to continue and are planning to cater to the luxury car buyers only. The starting price is rumored to be around $100,000. Whether or not this figure remains a valid contender for the cost of the Revero, only time will tell. Until then, we only have pretty pictures to keep us occupied.
