Supercar builder RENNtech is back in the headlines once again and for all the good reasons. After two years of intensive testing on some of the most rigorous racetracks in the world including the Nürburgring-Nordschleife racetrack and their very own Palm Beach International Raceway, the all-new RENNtech’s R2 AMG GT S is finally here to give you a run for your money!
RENNtech does it Again
With the R2 AMG GT S, RENNtech has once again exhibited its unique capability of combining sophisticated tuning software with high-performance components, which in this case include state-of-the-art air filters, downpipes and 200 cell sport catalytic converters to create a dream machine capable of making any owner proud on the racetrack. RENNtech is renowned for their tuning solutions for Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen, and Bentley. With their niche area being Mercedes-Benz, the creation of the R2 AMG GT S comes as no surprise.
Different Drive Modes
The initials ‘GT’ denote ‘Grand Tourer’ mean that the car can cover considerably long distances in relative comfort. This does not undermine its racing capabilities and you can toggle between different driving modes with the mere touch of a button. You can change the way the exhaust note sounds by just pressing the button. In comfort mode it is subdued and you can drive around town peacefully. Put it into Sports mode, Race mode or Sport Plus and WHEEE! You are transported to the racetrack in an instant!
Looks can kill
Mere photographs do not do justice to the new AMG GT S. Up front in real life it really looks impressive. The typical racing car long hood, curved greenhouse, and stubby tail fill all the regular sports car requirements in terms of looks, but the AMG GT S throws in added glamor with a large gaping grill in the front with the Mercedes-Benz logo, crisp side vents, and a retractable electronic spoiler in the rear. The two-tone multi-spoke wheels certainly do not diminish the impression.

Impressive Interiors
Luxuriant sporty leather bucket seats combined with high-quality aluminum and carbon fiber interiors create a pleasant ambiance. The array of buttons between the seats to adjust the suspension or gearbox or to select any of the five driving modes gives you a real cockpit-like feeling.
Under the Bonnet
The 4-liter V8 engine is placed along with 2 turbochargers that are cleverly packed between the banks of the engine. This imparts a nice, compact look to the whole engine assembly. It also results in shorter intake lengths, eliminating turbo lag.
Performance
716 hp and 656 lb/ft are achieved without compromising on daily driver comfort and reliability. The increased power is not all – with quicker spooling from the turbos you get a more sensitive throttle, enhanced by reduced exhaust back pressure, rolling resistance higher RPM, and a lighter rotating mass.
The original hydraulic steering has been retained instead of using electronics, which creates a feeling of being well-connected to the front wheels and tires.
A well-balanced car
A well-proportioned car, with great interiors and a spectacular engine, the R2 AMG GT S is bound to find quite a few takers. This is not only because it is a great performer, and handles well, but also because of the classic combination of comfort, raw power and good looks which are not always easy to achieve in a competitive racing car.
