2017 Land Rover Discovery Revealed
Oh, Paris, why do you have to be so far away? Auto show season is more about perseverance—the ability to wait patiently—than digging deep into the internet’s nether regions for nuggets of new-car news. Ahead of the show, Land Rover has dropped a single teaser of its new Discovery SUV.
With the new 2017 Discovery comes a new unibody chassis using extensive amounts of aluminum to lighten the SUV. Power will come from Jaguar Land Rover’s new Ingenium engines. We expect a litany of gasoline and diesel four- and six-cylinder powertrains to be available. However, we do not know yet what engines would make the US market.

Regardless of the market, the 2017 Land Rover Discovery will carry the same name, which means the LR4 nameplate in the US is officially dead. With the new chassis and powertrains, the Discovery will retain its “Alpine” roof that rises at the rear to provide extra room.
For those who want their Land Rover to be class-leading off-road vehicles and are worried about the new unibody chassis, do not fret. Land Rover has said the new Discovery will still be class-leading when it comes to leaving the asphalt. We’ll have to put that to the test ourselves, just to be sure. Check back later this month for all the details on the 2017 Land Rover Discovery just before the Paris Motor Show begins.
