1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing For Sale
You are viewing one of the finest automobiles ever built, a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing currently listed for sale by Hexagon Classics in London. This concours condition motorcar is finished in Ivory with red hide interior and fitted luggage. The car is also number matching, meaning the chassis and engine are original.
This 300SL is recorded in the Gullwing Group Registry as having been originally delivered to the USA on August 30th 1955 to New York City and supplied via MB Distributors, North America. The car stayed in the USA until the 1970’s before it was shipped to Germany, and then was finally acquired by it’s last owner in 1993.
In 1993 the car went through a complete, 100 point, “body off”, “nut & bolt” restoration by a very well-respected 300SL Gullwing technician Ron Waghorn, he was assisted by the equally talented Kevin O’Keeffe. The restoration took a total of six years and was completed in 1999.
The 300SL produces 215hp at 5,800 rpm that is delivered by a 4-speed manual gearbox. It does 0-60 in about eight seconds and has a top speed of 161 mph. The 300SL was the fastest production car of it’s time and has the reputation of “the finest classic car of all time”.
