Corvette Heroes Saves Long-Lost Collection of Corvettes

Collection of Corvettes

Back in 1989, VH1 Sweepstakes gave away 36 Corvettes, one for each year since the first Corvette went into production. (Excluding 1983, as only a few Corvette mules were produced and then junked.) The huge collection of Corvettes was won by a Long Island carpenter by the name of Dennis Amodeo.

Of course, no one really needs 36 Corvettes. Unless you happen to be an artist.

Peter Max would end up buying the entire collection of Corvettes and intended to use them in an art project. Yet that art project never ended up happening (or at least wasn’t made public.) And the huge collection of Corvettes would end up scattered around garages and parking structures across New York.

Collection of Corvettes

While many people dream of owning a Corvette, the collection Vettes mostly gathered dust. For roughly 25 years, most of the Corvettes simply sat, wasting away. Then Corvette Heroes stepped in and restored all of them. 25 years of neglect is no small matter, even for organizations dedicated to restoring and saving cars.

Many of the Corvettes from the lost and discarded Peter Max collection were in dire shape. Beyond dust and dirt, rust, cat claw marks, and other damage was found on many of the Corvettes. The 1953 Corvette was in especially bad shape and Corvette Heroes claims that roughly 4,000 hours was put into restoring the car.

Still, there work is done and the Corvettes have since been restored to pristine condition!

Corvette Heroes was formed by friends and associates of Chris Mazzilli, who co-owns the Gotham Comedy Club and is Corvette concours judge. Corvette Heroes will be giving the cars away one at a time via a sweepstake.
