You’ll soon be able to get your hands on a “supersonic” Superleggera. Of course, no hypercar can truly break the sound barrier but an upcoming DBS Superleggera Concorde Special Edition offered by Aston Martin will pay homage to the Concorde, the only civilian aircraft to ever break the sound barrier.
Once upon a time, it was possible to fly from London to New York in just over three hours. To get across the Altantic so quickly, you’d have to go faster than the speed of sound, and only the Concorde could achieve such speeds (at least, among civilian aircraft).
While the Concorde no longer zips across the skies, it’s still a legendary plane. And that’s why Aston Martin is going to honor Concord with the DBS Superleggera Concorde Special Edition
The Concorde’s final flight was in 2003, some 16 years ago. And while the special edition Superleggera won’t be anywhere near as fast, it’ll still offer exceptional speeds. The special edition Concorde Superleggera will hit 60 miles per hour in just 3.4 seconds and should top out at over 200 miles per hour.
The DBS Superleggera Concorde Special Edition is able to hit such speeds because a 5.2 liter V12 engine is packed under the hood. That engine should crank out over 700 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque.
Only 10 Concorde editions will be made. Each will feature a truly stylish white finish, black-tinted fiber roof, British Airways flare, a rear diffuser, and a rear wing. With a price tag north of $400,000, the DBS Superleggera Concorde Special Edition but will become a rare collector’s item.
