Czinger 21C Breaks Goodwood Speed Record

Czinger 21C

The Goodwood Festival of Speed has crowned a new production car king: the Czinger 21C. This 3D-printed hypercar set a new benchmark during this year’s timed hill climb, completing the 1.16-mile course in an astonishing 48.83 seconds. Piloted by Chris Ward, the Czinger 21C’s record-breaking performance beat the previous mark by nearly half a second, dethroning the Rimac Nevera, which held the title for just a year with a time of 49.32 seconds.

Video footage of the run captures the 21C’s impressive speed and agility as it navigates the winding course. Remarkably, the car’s record-setting climb wasn’t flawless—near the finish line, it collided with a hay bale barrier, leaving a side mirror dangling. This incident sparks curiosity about how much faster the 21C could have been if it had completed the run cleanly.

Despite this minor mishap, the Czinger 21C’s achievement is a testament to its engineering excellence. The car was designed to push the boundaries of speed and performance. Its striking design features bulbous fenders, a jet-style cockpit that seats the passenger behind the driver, and a massive rear wing for enhanced aerodynamics. The heart of the 21C is a hybrid powertrain, combining a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V-8 engine with two electric motors to produce a staggering 1,250 horsepower.

While the 21C’s time is unmatched among production cars, it still falls short of the overall Goodwood hill climb record. That title belongs to the McMurtry Speirling electric fan car, which completed the course in a blistering 39.08 seconds in 2022.

Czinger’s ambitions extend beyond Goodwood. Founder Kevin Czinger hinted at a “little international trip” for the 21C next year, suggesting possible attempts at records on other legendary tracks like Nürburgring and Spa-Francorchamps. Such feats would further solidify the 21C’s status and justify its hefty $1.7 million price tag.

The Czinger 21C’s remarkable performance at Goodwood not only highlights the capabilities of modern automotive engineering but also sets a new standard for what production cars can achieve. As Czinger continues to push the envelope, enthusiasts and competitors alike will be eagerly watching its next moves.
