Dodge Viper Special Edition Models
As early as 1987, discussions were ongoing at Chrysler to find a vehicle that would fill the void left by the Ford Cobra. All involved in the decision making process were keen to ensure that it embodied the essence of a Chrysler sports car. The result was the Viper. It debuted at the Detroit Auto Show in 1989, went on sale in 1992 and has been showing off with its V10 ever since.
As the company prepares to close this 25-year chapter on the production of the Viper, they have shared that they will build limited-edition models which will pay homage to famous Vipers of the past.
Viper 1:28 ACR
Black with red stripes, this beauty is reminiscent of the 33-unit, 2009 Laguna Seca lap record setting (1:33.915) 2010 Viper ACR 1:33 edition. All Vipers carry a 645-hp and 600 pound-feet of torque from an 8.4-L V10 overhead valve engine and this is no different. ACR’s extreme aero package will be fitted to this model, which consists of among other things a carbon fiber rear wing, rear diffuser and a front splitter extension. This time around, only 28 models will be produced and this too celebrates a lap record—1:28.65—also at the Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey California.
Voodoo II ACR
Commemorating another 2010 Viper model, the Voodoo ACR, the reported production run is 31-units. Identical to the 2010 production count. This model gets the extreme aero pack as well, along with carbon ceramic brakes and is expected to endear as many fans as it did at the time of its release.
Viper GTS-R Commemorative Edition ACR
Way back in 1997 Viper won a championship. The FIA GT2 championship to be exact. In 1998 Dodge built a car to commemorate that win; it was the 1998 Viper GTS-R GTS Championship edition. Now Dodge is building a car to commemorate, the 1998 Viper that commemorated the 1997 Championship win, you follow? All jokes aside, this commemorative edition ACR will receive a white paintjob pictured above, the extreme aero pack that’s also in the 1:28 ACR exterior carbon pack and decals. The production run will be 100 just like the 1998 model.
Viper Snakeskin Edition GTC
A rebuild of the 2010 Viper Snakeskin ACR, of which 31-units were built, the 2017 model will be similar in appearance with an SRT stripe, an aero pack and a GT interior. Continuing their low production count trend, only 25 will be built.
An ACR version of this Snakeskin Edition—a late addition to the special edition line-up—will be made available and only 31-units will be built. This edition is not pictured above.
Dodge Dealer ACR
The Dealer ACR will only be available through Dodge’s highest sale volume Viper dealers and only 22 will be built. It features a Viper White exterior with competition blue center stripe, Adrenaline Red driver stripe, carbon ceramic brakes and the extreme aero package. This edition is not pictured above.
Viper’s customization program will continue as well, allowing any amount of configurations from the ground up. No, two customers will be able to order the same configuration and they will get a panel badge with a name of their choice for customization of their exclusive design.
If you wanted to dip in on this Viper celebration, currently your only options lie in the added ACR version of the Snakeskin GTC. All other special edition models are sold out. Some went in a matter of minutes (1:28 Edition ACR) and others took their time and tapped out at five days (Dealer Edition ACR). This if nothing else indicates the resale value on the auction block in a couple years.
