Chevrolet C8 Corvette Z06

The Chevrolet C8 Corvette Z06 is promising a whole lot of speed at a reasonable price, at least by supercar standards. The Corvette has long been a mainstay of the supercar market. However, for years the Corvette relied on a front-mounted engine, which arguably held back performance and handling. The latest Corvette’s offer a mid-engine similar to many European hypercars and thus far the newest Corvette has been very well-received.

That said, Chevy has been a bit slow to launch souped-up versions of the Corvette for sale. Now, with the Z06 coming to the market, supercar fans can enjoy an even faster, more powerful version of the mid-engine Corvette. Quite likely, the new Z06 will go down as one of the fastest and best performing Corvette’s ever.

The new Z06 is expected to be powered by a 5.5-liter V-8 engine based on the engine found in the Corvette Racing C8.R. The new Corvette should rev up to 9000 RPM and will crank out around 620 horsepower.

The Corvette Z06 is designed with track performance in mind. While the regular Corvette is no slouch, the Z06 should handily beat it performance-wise. Magnetic Ride Control suspension and special tires should improve handling.

Performance numbers haven’t been released yet. Pricing also isn’t known but the base model will probably cost north of $80,000.

While General Motors has had to halt the production of many vehicles, Corvette production has continued. The mid-engine Corvette is produced at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant in Kentucky. With the Corvette being both a brand champion and ranking among GM’s more profitable vehicles, it’ll probably be one of the last cars idled if need be.
