Gordon Murray Unveils the Le Mans GTR
Gordon Murray, the legendary engineer behind some of the most iconic performance cars in history, has revealed yet another road-going supercar. The new Gordon Murray Special Vehicles Le Mans GTR made its debut during Monterey Car Week, finished in a striking ocean-wave blue that perfectly complements its racing inspiration.
This isn’t just another addition to the Gordon Murray lineup—it’s a tribute. Murray designed the Le Mans GTR as a modern homage to endurance racing legends like the Matra-Simca MS660, Porsche 917, and Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/3. By reviving the longtail form, he blends nostalgia with cutting-edge engineering.
“Longtail racing cars perfectly combine aerodynamic benefit and aesthetic balance,” Murray explained. “Our Le Mans GTR timelessly reimagines the racers I’ve admired since I began designing cars, adding contemporary aerodynamics and our exquisitely engineered chassis, engine, and transmission.”
Engineering and Performance
Underneath its sculpted bodywork lies a brand-new platform distinct from the earlier T.50 and T.50s. Power comes from Murray’s signature 641-horsepower V-12 paired with a six-speed manual transmission, but the Le Mans GTR goes even further in pursuit of track performance.
The car incorporates Passive Boundary Layer Control, an aerodynamic system that reduces drag while maximizing ground effect. Unlike the T.50, it forgoes rear fan technology in favor of a deep, full-width rear wing designed to generate massive downforce. A roof-mounted intake, dual exhaust pipes, and wider tires with a stiffer suspension further emphasize its track-focused nature. Weight distribution has been carefully optimized, while larger front vents and side-pod intakes improve cooling for the engine and gearbox.
Exclusivity and Legacy
Only 24 examples of the Le Mans GTR will be produced, each representing one hour of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Production is scheduled to begin in 2026, but enthusiasts hoping to secure one are already too late—every car has been allocated to its future owner.
While Gordon Murray Special Vehicles has not disclosed pricing, the Le Mans GTR is clearly positioned as a collector’s masterpiece: part racing tribute, part modern innovation, and entirely unique. With this creation, Murray reaffirms his commitment to keeping analog supercars alive in a world rapidly shifting toward electrification.
The Le Mans GTR may be limited in number, but its design philosophy and engineering purity ensure it will hold a lasting place in the story of modern performance cars.
