I Spy a Ferrari F12 GTO / Speciale

A meaner version of the hardcore Ferrari F12 Berlinetta for sale is reportedly set to be unveiled sometime next week under the name F12 GTO / Speciale, according to news and reviews in the auto industry.

By now, we’ve all heard the rumors about a new prancing horse. However, based on an article from Performance Drive, “mysterious prototypes” have been spotted at the company’s headquarters in Italy, further fueling speculation regarding an upcoming Ferrari F12 GTO / Speciale. What’s more, World Car Fans recently informed its readers that the vehicle’s October debut is indeed valid, and that the model may cost as much as €322,644 excluding VAT, which is equivalent to approximately $363,651 USD. In addition, the automotive e-zine says the carmaker may produce no more than 799 vehicles.

A fiercer Berlinetta is definitely a newsworthy topic, as this Ferrari for sale is already equipped with some intense features — namely, a 6.3-liter naturally aspirated V-12 that’s good for a total 731 brake horsepower (bhp) and 508 pound-feet of torque. In other words: 4.6 lb. per hp. The ultra potent, 65-degree engine allows for a top speed of 211 miles per hour, zero-to-62 mph acceleration in 3.1 seconds, and sprinting to 124 mph is accomplished in 8.5 seconds. It’s all pretty impressive.

That being said, step up to the Ferrari F12 GTO / Speciale and you can expect a lighter and faster vehicle. The new model will reportedly shed a whopping 441 lb. from the Berlinetta’s 3,593-lb. kerb weight, resulting in improved power-to-weight ratio and overall performance.

News and reviews also suggest the ‘GTO’ will feature a revised — and therefore more powerful — version of the 6.3-liter engine, delivering 30 bhp more than its Ferrari sibling, and increasing total output to 761 bhp. A drop in weight and a boost in power can mean a lot of things, such as enabling a quicker zero-to-62 acceleration time of under 3.0 seconds, making this particular prancing horse faster than the standard F12b.

Whether or not the vehicle will be a regular production or special edition model is yet to be announced by the automaker, as is its name (we’re still not sure if the sports car will use the ‘Speciale’ or ‘GTO’ moniker). Whatever the case, Carscoops says the beast will sport side skirts, a redesigned rear bumper, rear fender vents, and new wheels, in addition to the aforementioned under-the-hood upgrades.

Overall, expect something speciale.
