Lamborghini Huracán STO: Inspired by the Race Track, Made for the Road

Lamborghini Huracán STO

The Lamborghini brand said it well: the new Huracán STO is “bringing the race track to the road.”  The latest (and rumored last) of the Huracán series is here, and it’s sleek.  The Lamborghini Huracán STO (Super Trofeo Omologata) is a road-legal version of the Super Trofeo Evo race car, with inspiration pulled from the wildly successful GT3 that clinched the 24 hours of Daytona three years in a row.

This stripped out, lightweight and aerodynamic version of the mega race car is designed with performance and tech features inherited by the race car experience itself. At the front of the car, the hood, fender, bonnet and bumper are fused together as one giant clamshell that Lamborghini has deemed the cofango—a combination of two Italian words cofano, meaning “hood” and parafango, meaning “fender.” It’s inspired by the legendary Miura Lamborghini supercar of the 1960’s, pivoting upwards as one fluid piece. Even though this eliminates the traditional storage space, it lifts fast and efficiently, for a time-saving technique while racing on the track.

The corfano is designed using a carbon fiber “sandwich” construction that was inherited from the aerospace engineering industry to strip 25% off its overall weight to help with the overall weight of the car (it weighs in at 2,952 pounds). This unique material is wrapped around 75% of the STO’s exterior to complement its heavyweight breaking control with a lightweight carbonium silhouette.

For maximum air flow, there are shark-like fins that pattern the back hood. That, paired with an adjustable rear wing allows for more affectively channeled air and more stability and track-honed handling during sharp pivots and turns.

This super-sports car gives drivers the feeling of a genuine race car as they experience the eye-watering, butterfly-inducing rush of the race track in this 640-hp, 310km/h machine. Gear up for faster shift times with the 7-speed juke clutch shift box as this weapon rips from 0 to 62mph in 3 seconds flat. The Lamborghini Huracán STO is clocking in at $328,000 with a variety of customizable interior and exterior options available. Deliveries are due to start next spring.
