Liberty Walk Gives The Aged Maserati GranTurismo A Makeover
Somehow, the sound of a tuned Maserati with a wide-body kit sounds wrong. Maserati, which in more recent times has made a name for itself by making sporty, luxurious vehicles, aren’t go-to vehicles for tuners, or enthusiasts for that matter. Only one vehicle, the Maserati GranTurismo, in the automaker’s lineup stands out as being something that resembles a sports car.
Despite being approximately 10 years old, Liberty Walk, the iconic Japanese tuner in charge of taking all sorts of exotics and going haywire, has worked its magic on the GranTurismo.
According to the tuning company, the vehicle will “make even the loudest and most in-your-face of supercars cower.” And while that’s an exaggeration, we kind of agree. If this car drives by, there’s no way people will be able to keep their jaws from hitting the floor.
The full kit, which came out late last month, includes a front splitter, side skirts, an aggressive rear end, a ducktail rear spoiler, and, of course, extra-wide fenders. Owners have the option of choosing between carbon fiber or a reinforced plastic version for a little bit less. With a kit that looks this outlandish and wild, going with the carbon fiber kit is an easy choice.
As usual, the kit isn’t exactly what we would call cheap. Owners with a GranTurismo MC Stradale can purchase the reinforced plastic body kit for $13,300, while opting for the carbon fiber variant costs $15,900. For any other version of the GranTurismo, the kit starts at $15,800 and tops out at $18,400 for carbon fiber components.
With the kit, the GranTurismo looks like a proper supercar that would have trouble driving over a stack of paper. Liberty Walk, in its infinite wisdom, has thought of a fix by offering air suspension on the car. Unfortunately, that’s an optional extra that costs $8,900. The decals, along with the unique wheel and tire combination are extra, as well. Hey, you didn’t think Liberty Walk would give anything away for free did you?

The powertrain has been alone, meaning owners have a 4.7-liter V8 engine generating 454 horsepower to play with. That may not sound like a lot, but the GranTurismo is still capable of getting to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. That’s quick enough to get in all types of trouble.
Some may say that this kit is overkill and unnecessary. But with the GranTurismo and GranCabrio rumored to get the axe before the end of the year and a successor still a few years away, at the earliest, we think it’s the perfect sendoff.
