Porsche Cayman GT4 First Look
While Porsche learns a lesson in supply and demand for this sold out marque whose biggest competition lies within its own family, the new Cayman GT4 for sale has accomplished many firsts and has become the benchmark of its class.

GT sports cars from Porsche have been known to blur the lines between a race car and one meant for everyday driving; this car begs the question: what line? Producing 385-hp at 7,400 rpm from its 3.8 liter flat-six 911 Carrera S derived engine, its sprint to 60-mph occurs in just 4.2 seconds, and it boasts top speed capabilities of 183-mph. For this car, you get the six-speed manual transmission only; and while that’s a completely acceptable decision, there may be a broken heart or two out there.
This mid-engine, rear wheel drive phenomenon with an exterior design that is as beautiful as it is efficient, makes use of its extra spoiler elements and large air intakes for improved aerodynamics, a chassis that puts the body closer to the ground than the Cayman for a lower centre of gravity, and the new 20-inch alloy wheels for improved traction and cornering. All work together to provide us with a well-balanced car with improved performance and handling.

The interior, not to be outdone, is black leather lined and driver centric with minor but distinct 918 derived features such as the adjustable wheel which is the same size as a 918 Spyder’s. There are, as per Porsche’s predisposition, a plethora of customizable options that take you right down to “decorative stitching for contrasting seams in red or yellow,” if that is your preference of course. Otherwise, the interior of the GT4 remains close to its Cayman counterpart.
Starting at about $85,000, this is way more than you would expect to pay for a Cayman, but, interestingly enough is exactly where you would start for a 911. Coincidence? Most likely not, however, one thing is certain, the Cayman has finally been unleashed and given reign to discover its true potential, and we couldn’t be happier.
