Portugal’s First Supercar: The Adamastor Furia
Portugal has long been celebrated for its sunny weather, exquisite Port wine, and soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. Now, the nation is poised to add another feather to its cap: a homegrown supercar. Enter the Adamastor Furia, a road-ready powerhouse that represents Portugal’s first foray into the high-stakes world of supercars, as highlighted by Top Gear.
Adamastor, an ambitious auto startup, has just unveiled the Furia, a model designed to compete with Europe’s elite automotive brands. The Furia is not merely a concept; it marks the culmination of years of dedication and evolution. The company’s journey began in 2010, initially focusing on race cars. It wasn’t until 2018 that Adamastor pivoted towards road vehicles, setting the stage for the Furia’s debut after years of meticulous development.
The Furia’s design is a striking blend of futuristic and aerodynamic elements, drawing comparisons to iconic models like the Aston Martin Valkyrie and Pagani Huayra. Its carbon-fiber body boasts distinctive features, including a bubble cockpit, bulbous fenders, and a prominent rear wing, all of which underscore its aerodynamic prowess. The vehicle’s Venturi effect floor enhances its aerodynamic efficiency, generating over 2,200 pounds of downforce at 155 mph, ensuring it slices through the air with minimal resistance.
Beneath its sleek exterior lies a formidable powertrain. The Furia is powered by a 3.5-liter Ford Performance V6 engine, capable of producing an impressive 650 horsepower and 421 ft-lbs of torque. This might not be the largest engine among supercars, but its output is significant, particularly for a vehicle weighing just 2,450 pounds, thanks to its carbon-fiber chassis. This lightweight construction allows the Furia to accelerate from zero to 62 mph in approximately 3.5 seconds and achieve a top speed of 186 mph, delivering a thrilling driving experience.
Adamastor plans to produce only 60 units of the Furia, each priced at around €1.6 million (approximately $1.7 million). This limited run and high price tag pose a challenge: will enthusiasts be willing to invest in a supercar from a relatively unknown startup? The company aims to rival established high-performance marques like Koenigsegg and Rimac, and it remains to be seen if the Furia will carve out its own niche in the competitive supercar market. Nevertheless, Adamastor’s bold venture signals a new chapter for Portugal in the realm of automotive excellence.
