It’s been over 15 years since Maserati unveiled a new hypercar, but the long wait for a new ride has ended. Meet the brand new MC20, a hypercar that promises to hit 60 miles per hour in less than 3 seconds and will top out north of 200 miles per hour. What’s more, prices start rather reasonable, at least as far as a hypercar is concerned. The Maserati MC20 starts at “just” $210,000.
Okay, $200K plus isn’t cheap but keep in mind that the last new Maserati for sale, the MC12, costs nearly $800,000. Production of the MC12 ended in 2005. Since then, Maserati largely flew under the radar. Only a limited number of MC12’s were produced and these days they can cost well north of a million. So, all things considered, the Maserati MC20 is a steal.
The MC12 looked like something you’d find on a Formula 1 raceway. The MC20 looks a bit more local road friendly, but make no mistake, it’s still a hot ride. Underneath the hood, you’ll find a turbocharged V6 engine that cranks out more than 600 horsepower. The engine is quite unique, by the way, because the sparkplug ignites in a separate chamber. This creates a flame that then enters the rest of the cylinder and then ignites the fuel and air.
Maserati claims that this engine design is capable of cranking out a ton of power, when needed. However, it’ll also provide a smooth and quiet ride during the day. So, for $210,000 you can get an all-around performer.
