The Last Bugatti Chiron L’Ultime Revealed
The Bugatti Chiron, the epitome of hypercar engineering, has finally reached the end of its illustrious journey. The French marque unveiled the 500th and final example of its second modern-day hypercar on Thursday. Aptly named Chiron L’Ultime, which translates to “the last one,” this extraordinary vehicle leaves Molsheim eight years after production began, marking the end of an era.
The final Bugatti Chiron is a nostalgic nod to the very first. L’Ultime boasts a stunning paint job that combines Atlantic Blue and French Racing Blue, the same colors worn by the debut Chiron showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in 2016. Unlike the debut model, however, the two colors on L’Ultime blend seamlessly into one another. Hand-written names of significant places in Chiron history, such as Paul Ricard, the track where prototypes were tested, and Ehra-Lessien, the circuit where the car became the first production vehicle to break the 300 mph barrier, adorn the side panels. The number “500” is prominently displayed on the underside of the rear spoiler, in front of the rear wheels, and on the wheel caps, as well as engraved into the engine cover.
Inside, L’Ultime’s bespoke interior is both luxurious and understated. The two-seat cabin features blue-tinted carbon-fiber trim and Deep Blue leather that has been meticulously hand-cut and hand-stitched. The number “500” appears on the center console and headrests, while the car’s name is painted on the French Racing Blue doorsills in Atlantic Blue.
Under the hood, the final Chiron is a Super Sport model, powered by Bugatti’s outgoing 8.0-liter W-16 engine. This turbocharged powerhouse produces an astonishing 1,578 horsepower and 1,180 ft-lbs of torque. Such immense power allows the car to sprint from zero to 60 mph in a mere 2.3 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 273 mph.
Bugatti has not disclosed the identity of the final Chiron’s owner, though reports that they are likely based in the U.S. The price paid for this unique vehicle remains undisclosed, but it is expected to be well above the Chiron Super Sport’s $3.7 million starting price.
With the unveiling of L’Ultime, anticipation now turns to the Chiron’s successor. The new hypercar, which will be powered by a V-16 engine, is set to debut next month. The Chiron’s legacy is a testament to Bugatti’s relentless pursuit of automotive perfection, and the forthcoming model is sure to continue this tradition of excellence.
