The New Elextra EV – Smart, Sleek and Powerful
If ever you could compare the latest creation in cars to those of smartphones, some of them fit the bill, like the new car from the new Swiss startup, Elextra. It’s smart; it’s sleek and yes, powerful as well.
Until just a few years ago, electric cars were reserved for the rich and famous or for tree-hugging environment lovers. However a lot has happened in a short while to change all this, and electric cars are becoming more of reality as prices are coming down, with more powerful cars being produced which have a longer range between charges than ever before. The new Elextra EV gives you all that and more with an impressive range of 600 km between charges while driving at an estimated average speed of 100 kmph.
Sleek Lines from Lightweight Material
The new Elextra has a tub composed of carbon fiber with futuristic, Batmobile-like looks. The sharply-angled bonnet and slim headlines add to the ultra-modern appearance. A low roofline and V-shaped wing seem to complete the finishing touch to the Elextra’s sleek profile.
In fact, it gives you the impression of an Italian automobile, with the front design that looks a bit like a Honda car. The weight loss thanks to carbon fiber is as much as 25% as compared to equivalent parts in aluminum.
Performance Matters
The new Elextra is not really off the drawing board yet, but the figures that are rolling off are quite impressive. With an impressive 680 hp or 507 kilowatts, from a dual electric motor and all-wheel drive, you get an acceleration of 0 to 100 kmph in a cool 2.3 seconds. If these claims are to be believed, will beat its nearest rival cars, the Tesla Model S and the Porsche Mission E. In fact, the car will break a new world record in acceleration!
The torque is delivered individually to each wheel which is expected to increase the traction of the wheels to add more stability. The car has a top speed of 250 kmph which is not bad going, considering that it is an electric car.
The new car is built with typical Swiss precision; each part fits perfectly into another to create an engineering marvel in an alternative energy vehicle. Not much is known yet about the interiors but it has four doors and four seats, and a lot of carbon fiber is expected to be used for the décor of the inside of the car as well. There is still no information available on the new car’s battery pack.
What to Expect
This car will be hand-built, you should see 100 Elextras rolling out of the factory at Stuttgart in Germany in the next two years, hopefully, sometime in 2019. The company is collaborating with many other companies to get the best expertise in the industry, and sufficient funding has been generated to move the car into the actual development process from being just a concept on paper.
At an estimated 450,000 euros a pop, the new Elextra EV you won’t be getting it cheap, but hey! Who’s counting bucks for a dream machine like this?
