Mercedes Benz recently revealed to the world its latest creation. Yes, you guessed it – it’s none other than their new Mercedes-AMG GT4 race car! The new car was shown to the world at the recently held 24-hour Spa-Francorchamps.

The latest car by Mercedes-AMG is based on the AMG GT R. The GT 4 is a production line model and the concept will have a reach over professional and amateur racing teams throughout the world as a dependable car, capable of delivering the goods to highly-demanding race-rack individuals and their sponsors. This new creation by Mercedes-AMG is compatible throughout their series based on GT4 like the British GT and the Pirelli World Challenge.

A bit about the Engine

This car is equipped with a 4 liter V8 Bi-turbo engine capable of delivering a solid 510 hp with a cool 600 nm of torque. Transmission is through a standard sequential six-speed competition gearbox and the transmission comes from the rear wheels.

Performance and Expectations

The Mercedes-AMG GT4 Race Car weighs just under 1,400 kg and will be able to deliver an acceleration of 0 to 100 in less than 4 seconds. With a top speed of 250 kmph, the new car should provide a sufficient platform for developing a good racing strategy and getting wins on the racetrack. The lightweight body of the race car is due to the extensive use of aluminum and carbon fiber, which contributes to the overall speed of the car. The entire frame is reinforced with a durable roll cage.

A Concept Car with an Agenda

The new car has its origins in its predecessor, the Mercedes AMG GT R which was launched by the company in 2016. This latest car by Mercedes-AMG bases its model on the already proven track record of the GT concept which is to produce a solid, road-legal sports car, with a slight compromise from the racing point of view perhaps, but still ahead in terms of speed and reliability.

To establish its ‘radical race car’ status, the company plans to use three prototype AMG GT 4 models in various races in the forthcoming motorsport season in 2017.

5 Decades of Mercedes-AMG

This year the Mercedes-AMG partnership completes 50 successful years of creating a high-performance racing car brand. Wholly owned as a subsidiary of Daimler-AG, the company dedicates the fantastic journey of half a century through the GT series, reiterating their brand promise, “Driving Performance” – the innuendo couldn’t be more apt.

A Truly World-Class Sports Car

According to Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, the GT concept is similar to the AMG hypercar concept where the common factor is that both the series define the performance of the future at AMG. The GT4 segment, he says, is gaining popularity due to the fact that it opens possibilities for use as a motorsport team car or for an individual driver.

Moers goes on to say that the GT4 is a natural progression from the GT3, and it promises to serve as a valuable platform to showcase the competence of the Mercedes-AMG group as a manufacturer of truly world-class sports cars.

The first Mercedes AMG GT4 race cars will be available from the end of 2017.
