The New Spyker C8 Preliator
After undergoing a serious medical procedure, many doctors like to say that “you’ll be as good as new.” This just might be the case with Spyker Cars who was deeply wounded and just now may be getting that clean bill of health that will make them better than ever.
Out of the limelight due to a series of nasty business and financial problems including a recent bankruptcy, the Dutch automaker has finally emerged from the ashes.
The company that has brought you the various iterations of the C8 Spyker, C8 Aileron and the Spyker C12 La Turbie and Zagato unveiled their newest post-bankruptcy creation, the C8 Preliator, at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
The third generation of the C8, the Preliator has been restyled both inside and out. The 2 door mid-engine sports car maintains the Spyker heritage of unique design, handmade craftsmanship, performance, and exclusivity. In all of Spyker’s history, only 290 cars have been built since its inception in 2000.
As in past Spyker’s the power plant of choice is manufactured by Audi. The Preliator features a 4.2 liter, 8-cylinder, supercharged engine producing 518 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. The result is 0-62 MPH in 3.7 seconds, with a top speed of 201.
The C8 Preliator chassis is an aluminum tubular space frame with a Lotus designed suspension. The car weighs in at a relatively light 3065 pounds. The Preliator features rack and pinion steering and AP racing brakes.
Spyker’s have always had a touch of aviation influence in their design and the Preliator is no exception. The new C8 has aviation inspired elements such as NACA style air intakes. The glass roof of the Spyker also has a gold coating applied similar to those used in fighter jets. This aviation influence will continue into the future since one of the new Spyker partners, Volta Volaré, is an American company that specializes in the development of electrically powered airplanes.
The cabin features a high-end sound and navigation system and can be ordered with a mind boggling 14 different color selection of hand stitched fine leather.
The rear wheel drive C8 can be purchased with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
The cost of the C8 Preliator is around $350,000. Only 50 will be manufactured.
Just what the doctor ordered!
