Electric Aston Martin Rapide to Launch in 2017
The luxury car maker that is as synonymous with the V-12 engine as it is for its relationship with Ian Flemming’s resoundingly popular literary export, has confirmed the development of an 800 to 1000-hp purely electric Rapide for a late 2017 release. This, mind you, considering the ambitious end of the spectrum and hoping for more than a little bit of craziness, is already double the horsepower of the 2015 gasoline-powered Rapide for sale.
So, what do we know about this battery-powered Rapide? Well, the weight distribution will be similar to the V12 model; electric motors will power the front and rear wheels for an all-wheel drive Rapide; and we can expect a range in excess of 200 miles. We also know that Aston Martin has no plans to dignify us mortals with a favourable price tag. Expect, and reasonably so, this luxury car maker to refrain from Tesla range pricing as it will continue to cater to its staunch supporters and admirers, and most importantly James Bond.
CEO Andy Palmer shared that following the electric Rapide, we can expect a production electric DBX crossover, of which we already got a sneak peek at during the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. All in all, Palmer believes that the entire industry will make the shift from gasoline-powered vehicles to electric-powered vehicles. With a myriad of electric concept and production car confirmations and rumours reaching our screens, phones and inboxes, we are inclined to believe him. Until that happens however, we await more information on this exciting car and hope that it will be as wonderful as we are being led to expect.
