BMW Celebrates DTM with Limited-Edition M4

BMW M4 DTM Limited Edition

German automakers are not exactly known for their constraint when it comes to special editions. If there is something to be celebrated, you can bet your bottom dollar there will be a limited-edition model to commemorate the celebration. This is why BMW has introduced the BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition to celebrate Marco Wittmann’s winning of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) driver’s title for the 2016 season. He first did it in 2014. Not bad for only being in the racing series for the last four years.

Based off the M4 GTS, the M4 DTM sports more power. The twin-turbocharged, water-injected inline-six engine makes 493 horsepower, 49 more than an M4 with the Competition Package, and 443 pound-feet of torque. A sprint to 62 miles per hour takes 3.8 seconds. Top speed is 190 mph. Performance is enhanced thanks to some weight-saving techniques. Carbon-reinforced plastic composites make up the hood, roof, rear diffuser and instrument panel support. Also, the tailpipes are made of titanium.

The exterior of the M4 wears a motorsport livery. Alpine White is the base color with stripes running down the beltline, along the top of the roof, above the rocker panels and over the rear deck. Many aero bits are done in exposed carbon fiber. Those include the mirror caps, side skirts, front splitter, front winglets, rear wing and rear diffuser.

Inside, the M4 DTM Champion Edition is your standard BMW with luxury throughout. Added are M sport seats for both driver and passenger. They are wrapped in leather and micro suede. The rear seats are gone, replaced by a rollover bar.

Only 200 BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition coupes will be made.
