Double Amputee Aims to Compete in 2020 24 Le Mans Race
It wouldn’t be hard to blame Ash Hall from Colchester if he gave up on many of his dreams. You see, back in 2010 the combat vet lost both of his legs while deployed in Afghanistan. Instead of giving up, Hall has continued to chase his dreams, including his need for speed, and is now working to compete in the 2020 Le Mans race.
For Hall, sports has been a major part of his recovery. Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times, Hall said, “sport has been really important for me in regaining my confidence and in building up my fitness since my injuries. I’m really excited to be a part of the team and part of the journey towards Le Mans.”
Getting to the Le Mans 24 race is going to be a long road, and not-so-coincidently, if he reaches the end, he’ll be greeted by yet another long road: the Le Mans race itself. He is already working hard to prepare himself. Hall has been extremely active in sports and has been competing in the Volkswagen Beetle-based Fun Cup series.
Hall already holds the Guinness World Record for longest distance covered by modified go karts in 24 hours. Along with his team, Hall covered over 1,800 kilometers. If Hall makes it to Le Mans, his team will likely cover more than 5,000 kilometers.
Currently, Hall is working with Team BRIT to prepare for the 2020 Le Mans race. Hall will be the first to admit that he’s got a lot of training and a lot to accomplish between now and then. However, his personal drive might just get him there.
