James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 Sells For $6.4 Million

James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5

There have been many amazing James Bond cars over the years, with Aston Martins often being the chosen brand. However, the 1965 Aston Martin DB5, which appeared in Thunderball, might just be the famous Bond car of all time. This particular DB5 has even been called the most famous car in the world.

And now, the Thunderball DB5 also holds the title for more expensive DB5 ever sold. The Bond car sold for a cool $6.4 million, exceeding pre-sale estimates by $400,000. So does the Thunderball DB5 come with all those famous Bond gadgets? Actually, yes!

The Bond DB5 is equipped with 13 special effects modifications. While the other Bond cars in Thunderball were equipped with temporary stage props, the special-effects equipment on this particular model were actually installed by Aston Martin and were built to last.

Prop guns extend from the car’s front and rear bumpers, there’s a control panel for the “ejection seat”, and there’s even a smoke screen dispenser. While many of the props only work on the silver screen (no, you can’t shoot people with this DB5), it’s still a unique part of film heritage.

The Aston Martin Thunderball DB5 was restored by Switzerland’s Roos Engineering, which is an Aston Works heritage partner. Roos Engineering did a full restoration, even restoring the movie props to like-new condition. So not only is this Bond car an iconic part of cinema history, it’s also in mint condition. No wonder then that this Bond car set the record for Aston Martin DB5’s.
