The 2016 McLaren P14 is a Junior P1
Feeding the rumor mill with uncertain details and shady stories, many have shared their thoughts, speculations, imaginings and wildly ambitious hopes for the 2016 McLaren P14. However, one thing that everybody agrees on is the fact that McLaren’s long-time rival, Ferrari, will have yet another mountain to climb in its familiar and usually successful attempts to keep this British powerhouse in check.
Fast on the heels of the current 650S for sale, the P14 will be powered by a twin turbocharged 3.8 liter V8 engine, and will target 0-62 mph in less than 3 seconds and push for top speeds of 205 mph. While a comparison is easily drawn between the P14 and that of the Ferrari 488 GTB, when you hear phrases like “a junior P1” you get a little more excited for its release and a tad annoyed at confirmed news that reads “the car will be built around a carbon fibre tub.” No Mclaren, no!

Grateful for what little we do have, McLaren’s faithful can expect a Spider and a Coupé just like its predecessor, with a price in excess of $300,000 USD for both, using the 650S as reference. This junior P1 will prove a worthy successor to the 650S and an adequate rival for any car in its class if, and only if it does what the P1 did when it was revealed to the world: blow us away and leave us in awe of its wonder. We already have Frank Stephenson’s assurance that it will be even crazier than the P1, so McLaren seems to be working on that aspect. Now, if only 2018 would draw closer a little faster then perhaps we could get a proper name for this car, McLaren?
