The almost unbelievable facts and figures I dug up last week on the Ferrari FXX vs Ferrari 599XX had my brain working overdrive to make sense of it. Fast forward to the current week and now my mind has officially clocked out and gone to a different planet after performing some preliminary fact checking on the Koenigsegg One:1, whose performance claims make even the XX twins look downright ordinary. But I’m ok with my mind being on new planet, because here the ruler is Christian Von Koenigsegg, and the only laws are that everything must be light, fast and painfully beautiful.

The World’s First Megacar

The Koenigsegg One:1 is by its own declaration the world’s first megacar. The “mega” prefix refers to the proprietary 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8’s maximum output of 1 Megawatt of power, equal to 1360PS (1 Pferdestarke = 0.986 hp). Koenigsegg’s intricate knowledge of unusual metric unit conversion ratios might seem like a ploy to give the One:1 a class of it’s own, but given the car’s recent annihilation of the 0-300-0 km/h Guinness World Record (21.19 seconds) and a long list of other performance markers, I think the new category seems justified.

It’s All About the Perfect One to 1 Ratio

Said “one to one,” not “one, one” the latest Koenigsegg’s model name proudly reveals its perfect power to weight ratio (1360kg to 1360PS), made possible through a generous helping of carbon fiber throughout the two-door coupe. Actually, according to Von Koenigsegg, almost the entire vehicle is made of carbon fiber. Even the One:1’s wheels are made of prepreg carbon fiber – the most expensive type available for purchase – by hand, in-house at Koenigsegg’s factory in Ängelholm, Sweden. The 19”x9.5” front wheels weigh just under 13 pounds.

Active Aerodynamics Up the Ante

Koenigsegg have really dialed in the aerodynamics of One:1, which is essentially an upgraded version of the Agera R. Active, hydraulically-actuated aero bits at the front and rear underside of the One:1 control downforce levels in conjunction with the world’s first top-mounted active rear wing. The mounting configuration of the rear wing leaves most of the underside of the wing exposed to airflow coming from the front of the vehicle, which is normally blocked by mounting pylons or planks. At its maximum theoretical top speed of 273mph, the Koenigsegg will produce 1830lbs of downforce.

Including the prototype (which you see in all the press photos), only seven One:1’s will be produced and all have already been spoken for at an asking price of $2.8 million. A single US customer will receive a One:1, so stay on the lookout at your local Cars ’n Coffee – you might just luck out and come in contact with the world’s first megacar.
