The NSX supercar helped establish Acura’s motorsports prowess, showing that the Japanese luxury brand could build vehicles capable of challenging the best and fastest cars on the road. For better or worse, however, the second generation NSX is set to drive off beyond the sunset. Honda, Acura’s mother brand, is producing 350 NSX Type S hypercars this year, which will cap the second generation Acura NSX for sale.
Rumors have circulated regarding a third generation of NSX supercars, but so far nothing has been confirmed. It’s possible then that the 2022 NSX Type S is the last NSX period. And if another generation of NSXs does grace the road, it might not be for some years.
Either way, Honda is ensuring that the second generation goes out with squealing tires. Featuring twin-turbo engines and electric motors, the 2022 Acura NSX Type S cranks out 600 horsepower. On the Suzaka track, Honda says the Type S has shaved 2 seconds off its circuit time.
We may have to wait a bit to get confirmed stats, but the 2022 NSX is expected to top out around 190 miles per hour and should reach 60 in about 3 seconds. On the outside, the 2022 NSX Type S offers a beautiful, refined look, and a graceful sunset.
Only 350 models are slated for production and prices start at over $170,000. While not cheap, the 2022 NSX Type S offers a chance to own a bit of supercar history.
